First reported over a year now, it’s now official – Naughty Dog has done a full ‘ground up’ rebuild of its iconic 2013 video game “The Last of Us”.

The PlayStation Direct website was updated with information and even a trailer for the game this morning ahead of its Summer Games Fest presentation which has now released the trailer officially.

Rebranded as “The Last of Us Part I” and incorporating the ‘Left Behind’ expansion, the trailer shows that the lighting, visuals and character model details have definitely gotten a boost.

Otherwise, though it’s still exactly the same classic that won over 200 Game of the Year awards and is often considered one of the greatest video games ever made.

There are reportedly changes in the gameplay to be more modernised and offer improved controls, along with more accessibility options. The changes being made are to bring the title more in line with the advancements in ‘Part II’ as it is seemingly being redone in the second game’s engine.

The trailer confirmed a September 2nd release date for the title on PS5 and confirms a PC version is in development to launch at a later unannounced date.

The GamesFest presentation also offered a first look at concept art for the studio’s untitled standalone multiplayer game which you can see below.
