The upcoming Sky drama series “This England,” which stars Kenneth Branagh under heavy make-up as UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will not be reshooting scenes.
Questions of the possibility have arisen in light of the chaotic events in British politics in the past 48 hours, which has seen a revolt among his Conservative government and more than 50 resignations in less than two days – ultimately leading to Johnson’s resignation a few hours ago.
Helmed by “The Trip” creator Michael Winterbottom, the series specifically focuses on the early part of Johnson’s stint as PM which unfolded during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Johnson struggled to get a grip on the health crisis and was even hospitalized with COVID-19 himself at one point. Branagh was cast in the project early last year.
The limited series is currently in post-production and is on track to premiere in the Fall – by which time it’s expected a new UK Prime Minister will be sworn in.
