Every time a new series of Love Island starts, it’s hard not to get invested by the romance and drama on display.
From secret kisses on the balcony to dramatic Casa Amor recouplings, there’s plenty of action on-screen for viewers of the hit reality TV show to get their teeth into.
But despite the happy moments and declarations of love, the heightened emotions in the villa mean that things can get pretty tense, too.
As a result, viewers at home haven’t been afraid to express their concerns or grievances regarding the show and have often turned to TV watchdog Ofcom to complain about Love Island’s antics.
So, let’s take a look at what scenes have caused the most complaints from fans in recent series…
Luca Bish’ graphic toe-sucking antics
During a recent challenge between Casa Amor and the main villa, Luca Bish found himself sucking the toe of bombshell Mollie Salmon.
After completing the dare, Luca admitted that Gemma Owen wouldn’t be too happy to hear of his behaviour as that was “their thing”.
Though it’s unclear whether anyone actually made a formal complaint, several social media users took to Twitter to beg “@Ofcom please make it stop”.
Gemma Owen and Davide Sanclimenti’s kiss
At the beginning of this year’s series Gemma Owen and Davide Sanclimenti hit things off, though viewers at home were unhappy with the couple’s age gap.
As Gemma is 19 and Davide is 27, 167 people complained to Ofcom about a kiss that aired between the couple during an icebreaker challenge.
After a few days together, the couple called time on their fleeting relationship and have since remained on good terms in the villa.
Curtis Pritchard’s Casa Amor shakeup
Back in 2019, they were everyone’s go-to couple until Casa Amor happened and Curtis’ head turned away from Amy Hart towards Jourdan Riane.
While Amy had planned to tell her beau that she “loved” him, it turned out that Curtis had backtracked on his feelings and had found someone new. While Curtis’ feelings towards Jourdan weren’t replicated, 314 people complained.
Finn Tapp’s headline game
Love Island’s headline game is known for stirring drama in the villa and during the 2020 winter edition of the show, things were no different.
Despite staying faithful during his time in Casa Amor, a headline reported that Finn Tapp’s head had been turned, much to partner Paige Turley’s disbelief. 544 complained over the misleading game.
Maura Higgins’ forward approach
Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae Hague may be best friends now but there was a time when they were love rivals.
While Molly-Mae was coupled up with Tommy Fury, Maura Higgins wasn’t afraid of stepping on anyone’s toes and was keen to show Tommy how interested she was.
In one scene, Maura was seen trying to kiss Tommy, with 709 complaining to Ofcom that a line had been crossed.
Dani Dyer’s Casa Amor heartbreak
As the stars of the 2018 series, Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham’s relationship in the villa was going from strength-to-strength until Casa Amor occurred.
After finding out that his ex had entered Casa Amor, Dani quickly broke down in tears after believing that he’d cheated on her despite him remaining loyal.
In response to Dani’s heartbreak, over 2,500 people complained to Ofcom.
Faye Winter’s outburst towards Teddy Soares
After being reunited following Casa Amor, tension grew between Faye Winter and Teddy Soares after a clip had been shown of Teddy admitting that he was attracted to bombshell Clarisse Juliette.
While nothing happened between Teddy and Clarisse, Faye was outraged and told her beau: “I know my worth and for me, this is done.”
Faye and Teddy have remained together since finishing in third place on the show, but the incident caused almost 25,000 to complain about Faye’s behaviour.
