Hugh Grant is rumored to be one of the unconfirmed names in contention to play Prince Andrew in the upcoming feature “Scoop” from acclaimed screenwriter Peter Moffat (“Your Honor,” “Criminal Justice,” “Cambridge Spies”).

Based on former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister’s just published book “Scoops,” the film will explore the story of how The BBC’s Newsnight program obtained November 2019’s bombshell interview with the disgraced Duke of York.

The interview, conducted by journalist Emily Maitlis, went into Andrew’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein who was found dead in his jail cell two months prior.

The interview had such an impact that Andrew was banished from royal duties and was notably in absentia during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities last month.

The project aims to explore how the Newsnight team secretly secured the interview with the royal, along with the actual filming of it, and explores the obvious question of why he agreed to do it in the first place.

Production companies The Lighthouse and Voltage TV are behind the project which is moving fast and aims to begin shooting in November.

A director has not yet been set, nor has casting officially begun but pitches are already being made to selected agents.

Asked about casting, producer Hilary Salmon (“61st Street,” “Silk”) says “we have, of course, thoughts” but stressed “no one is attached”. She did not comment on reports that Grant is in the mix.

Chunks of the interview itself will be recreated but no real BBC footage will be used.
