Encounter breaks out in J&K’s Baramulla, 2 terrorists trapped

One terrorist was gunned down during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday morning. Out of the two terrorists who were believed to be trapped in a residential area, one has been killed, police said.

The police said that a search was going on for the second terrorist.

The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Wanigam Bala in the Kreeri area of the district following information about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

According to reports, the joint security forces used minimal ammunition to protect a mosque near the encounter site. Bulletproof vehicles were placed in front of the mosque to minimise the chances of damage. In addition, no major ammunition like IEDs and MGLs were used. The operation was launched jointly by Baramulla police and the Army’s 29RR, army officials said.

Meanwhile, security forces arrested two hybrid terrorists linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit from Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
