Warner Bros. Pictures’ $90 million-budgeted animated feature “DC League of Super-Pets” opened on the low end of expectations, pulling in an estimated $23 million at the box-office this weekend.

The soft result came despite a publicity blitz with some of its voice stars like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. As the family film has little competition in August, and snagged a decent A- CinemaScore, Warners believes the movie will have legs.

Meanwhile Jordan Peele’s “Nope” fell to second place with a healthy $18.6 million, a 58% drop which was less than expected. The film has pulled in $80.6 million domestically after two weekends.

“Thor: Love and Thunder” was third with a further $13 million, dropping 42%. It currently sits at $301 million domestically, whilst its worldwide total stands at $662.4 million.

“Minions: The Rise of Gru” was fourth with $10.9 million, while “Top Gun: Maverick” was fifth with a further $8.2 million, “Where the Crawdads Sing” was sixth with $7.5 million and “Elvis” was seventh with $5.8 million.
