Siblings airlifted after taxis collided this evening [pics]

Siblings, a brother and sister had to be airlifted after two taxis collided leaving multiple injured in Johannesburg, this evening, Friday, 5 August.

INJURED SIBLINGS ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 11

Emer-G-Med responded to the carnage at about 6pm on the R114 in the Chartwell area.

The Emer-G-med statement read:

At approximately 18h00 on Friday night Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving two mini bus taxis on the R114 in the Chartwell area of Johannesburg.

“On arrival on the scene, multiple commuters were found to be injured. An on-scene triage area was immediately established by incident commanders and a call for additional resources was made by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre.”

“As many as twenty people are believed to have suffered injuries with two, a brother and sister aged ten and two years old respectively, suffering critical injuries,” Emer-G-Med reported.

WHAT CAUSED THE COLLISION

“Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilize them before a call was made to airlift them through to a specialist facility for the definitive care that they required.

The cause of the collision is unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.”

Far south of the country, the cause of the multi-vehicle collision involving cars, trucks and a tanker is still unknown.

Several vehicles involved caught alight following this accident on the N3 southbound near Marianhill Toll Plaza in Durban.

ENCA has reported on the death of one person so far. The south carriageway is said to be temporarily closed due to the carnage.
